Does this sound familiar? You\u2019re standing in your favorite, well-stocked fantasy specialty store and just can\u2019t take your eyes off a certain box of miniatures. Most of the time, you end up not buying it because you don\u2019t know the rules of the game, and there\u2019s no one around to explain it to you. And we all know that a pirate is reluctant to jump in at the deep end. <\/p>\n

Fortunately, though, we\u2019re here at the Golden Anchor, Longfall\u2019s<\/em> most famous tavern, which just happens to be the regular haunt of Delora Waits, the town\u2019s most hard-drinking but also most talented shanty singer. Since Delora is in a reasonably good mood today, she can tell you everything you need to know to play a game of *Freebooter\u2019s Fate*<\/strong> using the quick-start rules. Because\u2014and we all know this\u2014there are no lame excuses among pirates. The Game<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In Freebooter\u2019s Fate<\/em><\/strong> , two or more players compete against each other in scenario-based tabletop battles with a team of 4\u201312 characters. Each team has a leader and a varying number of specialists\u2014experienced, highly talented, or unique individuals\u2014as well as numerous followers. <\/p>\n

An average game lasts about 2 hours and is divided into several rounds, during which players take turns acting with one of their characters.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

All without dice
<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Unlike most tabletop games, *Freebooter\u2019s Fate* doesn\u2019t use dice. Instead, combat is resolved using hit zone and fate cards. <\/p>\n

The attacker secretly selects a certain number of targets from the six target zones\u2014head, torso, lower abdomen, legs, and the left and right arms\u2014and the defender tries to guess which ones using his cards. Different winning strategies ensure that the battle here is not merely a game of chance; rather, due to psychological effects, they favor \u201cskill\u201d over chance. <\/p>\n

Of course, the usual element of chance is still present in the form of fate cards, each with different numerical values and special symbols, which are used to determine damage and resolve other random effects.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n
