Murfs are mutants who have been artificially created by humans to fulfill certain tasks. To put it bluntly – they are purpose-bred and forcibly mutated slave labourers.

Most of them are genetically programmed to enjoy performing those tasks or even feel an unrelenting urge to perform them.<\/p>\n

One distinct class of Murfs are the small, energetic Repairanics. Creatures, mostly with brightly coloured skin and a flamboyant sense of taste regarding their appearance. Their body size has been drastically reduced for working in the narrow confines of mine shafts. They are also frequently utilised for maintaining complex machinery. Another common variant are the Vitruvians, who are more than 2 meters tall and highly agile with multiple arms. They are well suited to carrying out several tasks at once. Whether in offices, operating and programming computers at the same time and, of course, for combat roles, where their ability to simultaneously wield several weapons at once gives them a distinct advantage.


And then there are the big and lumbering Insistents, who are just as suited to lugging heavy things around as they are to bashing their opponents over the head with those exact heavy things.<\/p>\n

Those are the three most commonly used mutants. However, there are countless other variants, so numerous and varied that they probably defy classification. <\/p>\n

Over the centuries, however, the mutants became genetically unstable. They refused to work for no reason at all, just stood around staring vacantly into space, fought each other in violent bursts of spontaneous aggression, or even developed additional, entirely unintended and often gruesome mutations. As a result, it became increasingly difficult to deploy them in a cost-effective manner.
Consequently, the megacorporations had to fall back on ‘normal’ human workers and the mutants who could no longer be ‘utilised’ were left to fend for themselves. Having been turned into outcasts and pariahs, they lived their lives on the fringes of society in the dirt, underground. <\/p>\n

Then came Maxx Starr! He managed to rally the discontented mutants around him. They hijacked a spaceship and fled into space to a better future. The Murfs, the Transformed, were born. <\/p><\/div>More <\/a> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Faction game mechanics<\/h1>\n

Murfs suffer from genetic instability, which is mostly triggered by stress. This can lead to them spontaneously mutating on the battlefield. <\/p>\n

One of the Murfs’ special rules enables them to use their genetic instability through the spending of mutation points to gain certain bonuses for an action.
These can take the form of, for example, a temporary increase in strength or to their movement range.<\/p>\n

Careful though! Too much instability can also render the affected Murf out of action.<\/p>\n

This is because if a unit suffers a critical hit, it must lose a free mutation point.
This is good at first, because mutation points provide bonuses in the game. However, once all of them have been used up, the murfs suffer random critical hits. So use your mutation points wisely. <\/p>\n

Before you ask, yes they can also be ‘healed’.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Maxx Starr<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

Maxx Starr was created as a Vitruvian. He was originally assigned to work in data processing because people were no longer prepared to trust AI with that. Ironically, as leader of the Murfs, he is now one of humanity’s worst enemies, at least as far as the Interstellar Commission is concerned. <\/span><\/p>\n

His goal is to free every last Murf, to find a cure for the genetic instability, and to establish a safe home for his people. <\/span><\/p>\n

He is never seen without his hat in public.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Rep-Sec<\/span><\/h1>\n

Unlike most Repairanics, Rep-Sec is more interested in tinkering with living beings than machines. He has made it his life’s work to free all Murfs from genetic instability. <\/span><\/p>\n

He serves as a medic on the battlefield but is more concerned with suppressing mutations when on a ship in orbit.<\/span><\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Rep-Una<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

Chief engineer Rep-Una is the <\/span>living proof <\/span>that you don’t have to be particularly tall or <\/span>manly, let alone male, to dish out substantial amounts of damage, whether as a lone fighter on the battlefield carving up opponents<\/span> with her circular saw blade or on board a ship, firing scrap at the enemy. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

She likes to spend her spare time working on the <\/span>HOPE, the Murfs’ ship, or <\/span>arming new recruits.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Repairanics<\/span><\/h1>\n

Repairanics, as can be inferred from the name, were created for repair work. <\/span><\/p>\n

They were designed to be small and clever and fitted with an additional thumb. To the annoyance of their human creators, they soon exceeded their specifications. <\/span><\/p>\n

They optimised their own technology, which is superior to that of humans in many respects.<\/span><\/p>\n

In battle, they excel at landing hits with their weapons, even though these are disproportionately large in relation to their bodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
