What do I need to get started with Freebooter’s Fate?

All you need to start playing Freebooter’s Fate are the basic rulebook, a set of playing cards, a table to play on, and two starter boxes of (ideally different) crews. Each starter box gives you around 300 doubloons’ worth of characters to lead into the fight. You also need a mate to play against, of course.

All you need to begin with can be found on these pages (apart from the table and the mate – that’s very much a “bring-yer-own” situation).

The starter deal contains everything you need to, you guessed it, start. In addition to the starter box for your favourite crew, it contains the full-colour basic rulebook and the necessary playing cards. Even better: it saves you a few doubloons compared to buying everything separately. With us so far?

What crew to choose?

To make it easier for you to choose a crew, we have given the various crews different challenge ratings based on the way they play and the number of additional rules which apply to them.

The more complex the crew is to handle, the higher the difficulty level.

There are three categories:

For beginners

These crews are easy to handle and are especially suited for your first command.
Anspruch1

Advanced

These crews need a steady hand which leads them to victory by supporting their strengths and avoiding their weaknesses.
Anspruch2

Expert

These crews have quite a few additional rules which you have to learn first.
